Election night, Nov. 3, 2026 · what the 2024 count shows
When will we know?
How fast the 31 states with a close race this year counted their vote on election night 2024, in the order their polls close. It is a record of the last count, a guide to what is slow and what is quick, and no promise about this one.
- These are 2024 counts. 2024 was a presidential year, and 2026 timing can differ. Nothing on this page predicts when any 2026 race will be known.
- Percentages are of each unit’s final 2024 count, not of the votes cast in 2026. A county’s share is of that county’s own final count.
- This page shows no results and no live data. Call the Map does not run an election-night results page.

Share of the state’s final 2024 count in at the nearest archived copy of the results feed (within 8 minutes of the hour, listed on each state’s page). “95% in by” is the first archived copy at or above 95%; the archive has no copy between 2:37 AM and 2:37 PM on Nov. 6. “none” means the feed showed no votes yet. “not measured” means the feed left out a county that was reporting, so we print nothing rather than a number that is too low. Poll closing times are Eastern Standard Time (daylight time ends Nov. 1) from state election offices; the last archived copy of the night was taken at 2:37 AM ET.

Where the numbers come from
- Counts
- The New York Times presidential county results feed (Associated Press data), President only, as the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine kept it on the night of Nov. 5–6, 2024. Each state’s page lists the copies it uses, with their times and links. The archive has no capture of this feed between 2:37 AM and 2:37 PM ET on Nov 6 2024; a state still counting at 2:37 AM is not measured again until the afternoon (and only the 16 states with an 'after' point carry later captures).
- What a percentage is
- The share of a state’s (or county’s) final count that was in at that moment. The final count is the feed’s last archived value for that unit, not a certified canvass, so a share can be a point or two off.
- Poll closing
- State election offices and statutes; times for Alaska, Kansas, New Hampshire and Ohio rest on compilations, and the page says “check your state.”
- Late in 2024
- The biggest counties that took longest to pass 90% of their own final count, and, where the Associated Press, MIT’s Election Data and Science Lab or a state office documents it, why a state counts late (mail ballots, big cities, days of counting).
